Salt N Peppa gets Felt Up Buttercup

Today's Rainbow Challenge color is Yellow.

Oy.

I have only 5 yellow polishes in my collection.  FIVE.  Out of some ungodly high number I try not to think about lest I feel sick.

The funny thing is I was completely torn between two of them, so I threw caution to the wind (I'm crazy like that) and used them both.  This is 2 coats of Revlon Buttercup (pinky, middle) and 3 coats of Cult Nails Feel Me Up (ring, pointer).   I put one coat of Lush Lacquer Salt N Peppa on top (how can you possibly not love the name of this?).

On the first coat Buttercup looked like it was going to be an epic fail, but after the 2nd it had complete coverage.  I like how the softness of the yellow brings out the iridescence in Salt N Peppa.  Feel Me Up went on a bit sheer and so I did three coats for full coverage.  I probably could have gotten away with 2 since I had the top coat.  I think the deeper yellow of Feel Me Up makes the white glitter of Salt N Peppa really pop.

Surprisingly, yellow doesn't look as bad as I thought it would on my skin!

As usual both Cult Nails and Lush Lacquer were amazing to work with.  These are two fantastic indie polish makers.

Cult Nails can be purchased from her shop.  Revlon can be purchased at any drug store or Ulta.  Lush Lacquer can be purchased through their Etsy store.

  1. I love the fact these yellows aren't blinding. The glitter really makes this awesome!

    1. Thanks! Yeah, I only have one neon Yellow (from the CG Summer Neon Line). My other yellow is more of a frosty yellow and then the fifth is a chock full of fail NYC Taxi Cab that I wore on my pinky once and will never use again. I agree the glitter really looks good overtop, I struggled hard with what to do for yellow!

      Thanks for commenting.

  2. You and your titles! I like that you used two different yellows. I think you sort of rocked this one. :)

    1. Yeah, yellow is just really not that prevalent out there. The funny thing is out of my collection the biggest color I own is blue. Which seems weird to me that it isn't red or pink or purple!

    1. lol, have you seen my horrific spelling and grammar? I'd need someone to talk to and they would just write it for me! Thanks for the kind words though.

  5. oh, and I have been meaning to tell you - I remember when I found your site you had like 10 followers and now you are up to 52! Keep up the good work and your awesome writing style:) I know the minute someone reads one of your posts, they will want to follow. Also...do your neighbors ever see you doing your swatches out on your deck? They are probably like "there's that weirdo taking pictures of her hands again in different angles...LOL. I can just see it.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm always sort of amazed when I get new followers and humbled. I take pictures at basically two times a day, in the morning after my husband leaves for work or in the early evening when I get home from work. lol. My neighbors on either side rarely come out into the back yards, so I've never been caught by them. The ones behind us can't really see because we have tall trees. I'm sure some of our more distant neighbors have seen me from a distance on their way to the bus stop! Oh well, they already know I'm a bit nuts anyway. It is probably too far away that they don't realize what I'm taking photos of. Our back gets constant sunlight, so it really is the best place for outdoor photos. I think people have been trained not to look in our back yard since we have a pool and the last thing any of my neighbors want to see is me in my suit! ;-)

    1. I can't speak highly enough of Cult Nails. Great company. I believe she has her polishes made in a factory of some sort, so while she is a small business, she has more of a lean towards professional polishes than other of the small polish businesses. I was lucky enough to score this one on one of her $5.00 sales! woot.

    1. Yeah, it is from the more expensive Revlon line (colorstay I think?) I'll tell you the first coat looks like a total freaking disaster. Streaky, patchy, el yucko. But after the 2nd it leveled off and looked great. It was pretty amazing. I've been very happy with most of my Revlon purchases.

  10. Love these alternating yellows - so cute! I really want to run out and buy Buttercup now! I'm always so afraid of thin and streaky yellows, so I'm glad to read it only took you two coats :D
